Privacy Policy

Last updated: 12 October 2026

FarmersTag is a social network for Nigeria's farming community. It has a website at farmerstag.com and a mobile app for Android. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who can see it, and the choices you have. By using FarmersTag you agree to it.

1. Information we collect

  • Your account: your name, username, email address, account type (for example farmer or agro-dealer) and a password, which we store only in scrambled (hashed) form.
  • Your profile: anything you choose to add, such as a profile picture, banner picture, bio, location, WhatsApp number and links to your website or social pages.
  • What you post and send: posts, comments, reposts, photos and videos, messages, marketplace listings, reviews, event submissions, blog comments, course comments, and support messages you send us.
  • Verification details: if you ask to be verified, a selfie, a photo of an ID document and a WhatsApp number. Only our admin team can see these, and only to check your request.
  • Purchases: when you buy a course, feature a listing or pay for an advert, our payment provider tells us the payment reference, the amount and whether it succeeded. We never see or store your card or bank details.
  • Usage and device information: which pages or screens you visit, when, the type of device and browser or app version, your approximate location based on your internet address, and how you arrived at FarmersTag. We use this to understand and improve the service.
  • Notification address: if you allow notifications in the app, a technical address for your phone that lets us send you alerts.
  • Cookies on the website: small files that keep you signed in and remember basic preferences.

2. How we use it

  • To run FarmersTag: create your account, show your profile and posts, deliver messages, and run the marketplace, courses, events and blog.
  • To send you emails and notifications about activity you care about, such as likes, comments, followers, messages and account updates. You can switch notifications off in your phone settings.
  • To process payments, and to enrol you in courses or activate featured listings and adverts after payment.
  • To verify members and keep the community safe, including reviewing reported content and removing anything that breaks our rules.
  • To measure how the service is used and fix problems.
  • To meet our legal duties.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Who can see what

  • Your profile and your posts can be seen by other FarmersTag members. Posts in communities can be seen by the people who can view that community.
  • Marketplace listings and events are visible to members once approved.
  • Messages are between you and the people in the conversation. Our team may look at messages only when they are reported or when needed to keep people safe or meet legal duties.
  • Verification documents are visible only to our admin team.

4. Who we share information with

We share only what is needed with the companies that help us run FarmersTag:

  • Payment providers (such as Paystack, Flutterwave, Monnify and Korapay) to process payments you make. They have their own privacy policies.
  • Google Firebase to deliver push notifications to your phone.
  • Email delivery and hosting services that send our emails and store our data.
  • Authorities, if the law requires it or to protect people's safety.

5. What the mobile app can access

  • Photos and videos: only the ones you pick when attaching them to a post, message, listing, event or profile. The app does not browse your gallery.
  • Saving pictures: if you tap Save, the app adds that picture to your gallery. It does not read your other pictures.
  • Notifications: only if you allow them.
  • Internet access: to load and send your content.

The app does not use your contacts, your precise location or your microphone.

6. How long we keep it, and deleting your account

We keep your information while your account is active. Deleting your account removes your profile and the content linked to it from our service. Copies in backups can remain for a limited time, and we may keep records we are required by law to keep, such as payment records.

How to delete your account

  • In the app: open the More tab, choose Account settings, then Delete account, and enter your password to confirm.
  • On the website: sign in, open your profile settings, and choose Delete account at the bottom of the page.
  • If you cannot sign in: contact us from the email address on your account and we will delete it for you.

7. Keeping your information safe

Information travels between your device and our servers over encrypted connections, and passwords are stored in hashed form. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and never share it.

8. Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and similar laws you can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. You can edit most of your details yourself in your profile. For anything else, contact us using the details below.

9. Children

FarmersTag is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it. Read our Child Safety Standards to see how we protect children and how to report a concern.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we change the date at the top, and for important changes we will tell you in the app or by email.
